The Carony System – Independence and Comfort

Carony SystemThe Carony system is a wheelchair with a low profile, detachable seat. This wheelchair is used in tandem with a Turnout, or Turny, swivel seat base, and the seat simply slides on rails from the wheel unit straight onto the swivel seat base. By using a Carony, the wheelchair occupant does not need to transfer from the seat of their wheelchair into the vehicle’s seat; removing any need to lift themselves.

The Carony system is available as either a manual wheelchair, the Carony Classic, or a powered chair, the Carony Go.

The Carony Classic is easy to manoeuvre and functions as an ordinary comfort wheelchair. It is also available with two different wheel alternatives: 12″ rear wheels, as a transport wheelchair for those unable to drive themselves, and with 24″ drive wheels, for those who can.

The Carony Classic is also height adjustable, making it more comfortable when using around the house; for example when sitting at a table. A cheaper alternative to the Carony Classic is the Carony Fixed. The only difference is the Fixed model is not height adjustable; and therefore it can also only be used with Turny systems and not the Turnout.
Apart from being a transport wheelchair, the Carony 24″ is also a comfort wheelchair, smooth and easy to use in the home, outside and in the car. It has all the advantages of the Carony system including practical accessories for various needs and functions.

Carony SystemThe total width of the chair is 67 cm (26½”) and therefore passes easily through door openings in the home. The ergonomic design of the Carony gives a good sitting position – as good as an armchair. It is possible to have the drive wheels in three alternative positions to adapt the chair to the needs, balance and driving ability of each individual user.

The Carony Go acts as a normal powerchair, controlled by a joystick; which can be placed on either the left or right hand side of the chair. The chair has a max speed of 4 mph (6.5 km/h) and has a maximum range of 15 ½ miles (25km) on one charge.

Carony systems are just as safe as using the original vehicle seat. The low profile seats are crash tested and fulfil all current vehicle regulations, and the vehicle’s original seatbelt is retained to keep the user safe in the unlikely event of an accident. The seats are also fire resistant.
